Our total loss team have had a busy year with more vehicle thefts taking place than ever before. Members of the Day’s Fleet team have sadly experienced vehicle theft this year including one where keys were stolen from a house proving this really can happen to anyone.
Criminals are being smarter than ever and are able to steal keyless cars using readily available gadgets which bounce the signal from a key inside a property to open a car. Over 100,000 vehicles were stolen in the last 12 months and 60% to 70% were keyless models.
Tips on how to prevent keyless car thefts:
- Keep keys in a ‘faraday pouch’, a protective sleeve that blocks the signal a fob sends to a car. These are available to purchase on the Day’s Fleet store.
- Many cars have settings that can be changed to stop using keyless entry
- Do not take keys upstairs when you go to bed to prevent criminals confronting you in a bid to steal them
